Project Engineer (E&I bias)

Responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of site Projects from concept through to close out – including leadership of external contractors throughout project delivery.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate and demonstrate commitment to best HS&E practices and standards.
  • Execute the responsibilities of Engineers/Technicians and all employees as outlined in the HSE responsibilities overarching document.
  • Support & lead in the development of processes / procedures for the control of a variety of small to larger scale site projects.
  • Responsible for project management of a portfolio of business projects and concept studies – including budget management, stakeholder engagement, communication and reporting.
  • Responsible for the tracking & periodic reporting of projects to the relevant manufacturing & management teams.
  • Technical Authority on Electrical & Instrumentation design of site projects within defined boundaries.
  • Support other project managers with the delivery of site based projects – including design, installation and close out.
  • Develop, deliver & maintain standardised MOD procedure training modules.
  • Develop Electrical, Instrument and control designs from the Process Engineering Functional design concepts for relevant assigned projects.
  • Coordinate with NGUK functions and third party contractors to ensure development of Electrical, Instrument and control designs in line with project milestones.
  • Coordinate Mechanical, Electrical, Instrument, control and Civil design approval from the relevant NGUK discipline Engineer.
  • Ensure compliance to applicable Engineering standards and EU/UK legislation.
  • Liaise with Procurement to purchase appropriately specified equipment/materials.
  • Coordinate the development of work-packs for project installation.
  • Work with external contractors to ensure project installation is fully scoped and resourced.
  • Coordinate the installation of all projects in conjunction with the Senior Project Engineer, Project Manager and the installing contractors.
  • Coordinate the sign off and handover of all projects.
  • Coordinate the documentation update and closure of all projects.
  • Develop KPI’s as part of the project function to monitor the project/MOD process.
  • Support the Senior Project Engineer in CAPEX budgeting and forecasting.
  • Develop good relationships with key internal and external stakeholders committed to furthering the interests of Nippon Gohsei.
  • Provide appropriate Electrical & Instrumentation discipline support based on business requirements.
  • Support and promote standardisation of engineering practices and processes.

Other Responsibilities

  • Technical advisor for the purchase of new Electrical & Instrumentation equipment as part of CAPEX upgrade projects.
  • Technical Authority for E&I documentation approvals.
  • Ensure satisfactory budgetary control of all aspects Capex or Improvement projects.
  • Financial spend authority (Discipline Engineer level).
  • Control of Contractors, contractor selection, acceptance of control of work systems.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Good engineering practices in line with site rules – Primarily including MOD SR602.
  • Applying engineering solutions in line with COMAH & PPC legislative requirements.
  • HNC/Degree qualified Electrical / Instrument Engineer with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience in the Petro/Chemical industry.
  • Member of appropriate Professional body.
  • Industry relevant Project Management qualification.
